Hello, Dolly!
is a whirlwind race around New York and
Yonkers at the turn of the twentieth century, following Dolly Levi in her attempts to marry the wealthy Horace Vandergelder
and play matchmaker for Cornelius and Irene (played by Louise).
"And what do you do for a
living, Mrs. Levi?" asks Ambrose Kemper. "Some people paint, some sew...I
meddle," replies Dolly.
